NIXON COMMUNICATIONS COMBINED BRANCHES XMAS/PRESENTATION OF AWARDS FUNCTION
On the weekend of 10 – 11 October, 60 staff and some partners had a most enjoyable weekend at Dolphin Heads Resort, Mackay. Unfortunately, some staff from the pipeline division and those on call at various mines or with other commitments were unable to attend.
A relaxing meet and greet session, drinks and lunch around the pool was followed by a game of Trivial Pursuit in a wonderful location overlooking the waters of the bay.
Dinner was followed by the annual presentation of trophies handed to their staff by the managers of each branch – Grant Tucker (Rockhampton), Neil Sutherland (Gladstone) and David Christensen (Mackay). The award for the most successful branch this year was presented by John Nixon to Grant Tucker from Rockhampton (including staff at Blackwater and Emerald).

AUSTRALIAN PIPELINE INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION 2009
APIA's Annual Convention and Exhibition was held at the Cairns Convention Centre from 17-20 October.
Nixon Communications was one of 75 corporate exhibitors for the 450 delegates (plus numerous partners) who attended this year's event.
As usual, it was a great opportunity to network with already existing clients and to promote our services to newcomers to the industry.
A range of technical and general interest pipeline industry papers were presented on Monday and Tuesday, one of the highlights being Noel Pearson's speech advocating indigenous participation in the development of the natural resources of Cape York as a means of self help for the local people.
Very enjoyable social events were also organised, including the traditional family outing on Sunday, this time a boat trip to Green Island for snorkelling and coral viewing, and the Monday night fancy dress party, jointly sponsored by Nixon Communications (and others). John and Jan Nixon attended to represent the company.
All in all, a very successful and enjoyable convention.

Celebrating 40 years of TAIT ELECTRONIC LTD. 1969 – 2009
On Tues 7th September a celebratory lunch was held at the Full Moon Hotel Sandgate, Brisbane in honour of Sir Angus Tait and the great company he founded.
Tait staff and guests were welcomed by Regional Manager Brett Smythe and Frank Owen, Managing Director, who was visiting from Christchurch NZ to reflect on TAIT'S heritage.
John Nixon, Managing Director of Nixon Communications, TAIT'S most successful dealer in Oceania for the last 3 years, spoke on behalf of the dealers, with a customer's reflection of the ongoing "partnership" between the two companies.
In his speech, John noted the shared interests of Sir Angus and himself (cars, planes and of course electronics) and the enjoyable lunches he and his wife Jan have shared with him while visiting Christchurch. Also shared, was their experience of having failed in a first business venture, John's first foray in business at 19 years being short lived and Sir Angus's first company going into receivership in 1968.
John then recognised the fabulous support TAIT and also RF Industries gave to Nixon Communications in the very hard early years of the company, established in 1977.
He also gave great credit for the success of Nixon Communications to the Branch Managers Grant Tucker (Rockhampton), David Christensen (Mackay) and Manager elect; Neil Sutherland (Gladstone) and long term staff members Project Manager Gladstone Gary Davis and Neil Thomas and company Financial Controller Justine Blankenhagen. The success of the company was definitely due to the managers and their staff he added.
He then thanked Con Costi, accounts manager, for not only his great smile and the BBQ's he cooks for the staff at the branch offices, but also the support he provides in promoting the TAIT product.
He concluded by asking everyone to raise their glasses to the memory of Sir Angus and the great company, TAIT Electronics, which he founded.
An enjoyable lunch was had by all!
